We visited Kona for 3 nights January 23-26, 2013 and our intention was to snorkel with the Manta Rays. On the advise of family who did this previously with Coral Reef Snorkel Adventures we went out with them. They have a 27' boat and take out only 6 snorkellers on their trips. Our guide on the Manta trip(s) yes we went twice was Shawn and our Captain was Carl. They were great, informative, and took really good care of us. The trip started at 5:30 pm meeting at the Harbour for the usual paper work. The ride to the Manta Ray spot we went to both times was about 25 minutes and along the way we saw Humpback whales and took some time to stop and check them out. We arrived at the spot just before dark and that is where we had our debriefing about the Manta rays and what not to do. There are other boats that go there who in our opinion take too many people Our trip was perfect with our small group. After the manta debriefing, we were fitted with wetsuits, fins and snorkel gear and when it was dark enough and the mantas started to show we jumped into the water to hang onto an apparatus built on a surfboard to hold lights with tubing all around it for the 6 of us to hand on to while Shawn took us to the mantas. It was truly like being in starwars with lights on top of the water and on the bottom where the divers sat or laid down to watch from below. We also did the morning snorkell trip with the dolphins in the wild. Captain Ron and Jessica were our crew and we were the only 2 on the boat with them. We came upon a few smaller pods and managed to get in the water and swim with them and take some great pictures. All in all - this company takes great care of you all the way. And at the end of the trip you get a home made macadamia nut brownie - yum yum! A lady named Martina Wing is a manta expert and she visits the boats and takes video of everyone in the water interacting with the mantas. She sells her work at the end of the parking lot following the trip. We bought the DVD and it is fabulous. We can`t say enough about this company and how well we were taken care of. Tip 1) If you are looking to be on a charter boat with more than 6 people - this is not for you. Tip 2) If you are looking to be on a boat with an attentive, professional, nice and engaging crew - this is not for you. Tip 3) Lastly, if you are looking to be on a boat where they don't serve their famous brownies - this is certainly NOT for you. Because of Trip Advisor, my husband and I were lucky to find this company, based on the multitude of positive reviews shared by others. With that, we booked our night excursion (10/8) with the Manta Rays which til this day, brings a smile to my face. It is certainly a bucket list item that I can cross. Directions from Captain Ron (when you book your excursion) to get to the meeting place - was very straight forward and very much appreciated. After signing your life away (kidding), my husband and I and another couple (read: small group) were on our way. Once we arrived at the “spot”, the realization of how lucky we were to go with this company versus the various other charter boats that had more than 10-20 in a boat, well just made us all want to high-five each other!!!! The crew themselves did such an outstanding job by making each of us comfortable, to asking what our skill-set is (have you snorkeled before? Are you comfortable in the water etc?) to the educational tid-bits of what Manta Rays are and what to do once in the water. Of course, I can go on and on, but I won’t. That can be read by other past reviews or do one better – experience for yourself (smile). Now, because of our first excursion experienced, my husband and I decided to book a 2nd one with them – this time, the Dolphin excursion (10/11). Another bucket list crossed. Experiencing “swimming with dolphins” in a controlled environment is very different when “swimming with dolphins” in their natural habitat. Words can’t be described as to the “awesomeness” of being in the warm Pacific Ocean surrounded by spinner dolphins. Again, the crew (a different one) did such an outstanding job and also shared what we may see, what to look out for, but more importantly to just enjoy. I can go on and on, but I won’t. That also can be read by other past reviews, or do one better – experience for yourself (double smile). Coral Reef Snorkel Adventures – thank you for helping fulfill a life-long yearning. It will be one that will never be forgotten.

Aloha, This is such a fun way to describe the contrast between our guest capacity and that of the larger boats. It is true, we offer services that larger boats with crowds can not. Now I understand why the Manta Ray Night Snorkel has been ranked one of the Travel Channels top 10 things to see. It's unbelievable. Worth every cent. You get to be within inches of the beautiful (and very gentle) manta rays. (Remember, Manta Rays are NOT sting rays - they are harmless.) Captain Andy & Sean were great - friendly, fun, and made it super easy and quick to get your gear on, get in the water and have the best experience possible. The boat only carries 6 passengers, but it really roomy (I looked over at one of the zodiac boats there and was very happy I went with Coral Reef Adventures - the other boats seemed packed). They offered snacks and drinks and homemade brownies- delicious (I think the Owner's wife makes them). My husband caught some great videos with our underwater camera of the manta rays swimming around and doing back flips right in front of us - we're both still in awe of the experience. We travel a lot and this has been one of our favorite experiences. Don't think twice - you'll regret not doing this trip - and go with Coral Reef Adventures - they make it quick and easy and fun!

With such limited time that our visitors have on the Island . We realize you want to pack as much in as possible. That's why as a small group, you don't have to spend several hours before the charter, checking in at a shop. Then going out to the marina and waiting for all 20 people to arrive at the boat and then getting out to the site early enough for 20 people to get ready and finally jump in the water. We meet you at the marina, get the boat out quickly and to the site just before it's dark and into the water. You don't waste all that extra time before hand for the 50 minutes your in the water with the Manta Rays. We make it quick and easy and especially fun. Mahalo Ron
