This was an incredible excursion while stopping in Juneau on my Alaskan cruise. I would highly recommend it. We met downtown and took a bus to where the rafts were on the river. First, we got to choose which type experience we’d like to have: sit back, relax and let the guide do everything, or participate by getting to paddle. We chose the latter. The guide still does a lot so don’t be worried the trip depends on your rowing skills! They provide waterproof clothing, boots, jackets, etc. I asked for a waterproof bright yellow jacket and they provided it. Just ask for what you need. They were all super nice and helpful. They will take your belongings and shoes and you’ll get them back at the end. The guide explained all the terminology about rowing and his commands. It all sounds scarier than it is. It’s exciting and fun but it’s not scary at all. The views are incredible and it’s a nice scenic ride down the river. The guide informs the guests about the river, the glacier, recent events (terrible flooding), etc. Our guide (Trent) was very entertaining and informative. It’s a wonderful way to experience this part of Alaska close up. Once done, you’ll remove all the waterproof gear and put your shoes back on. They offer photos for sale that were taken from the shore as your group rafted by. They had Apple cider, reindeer sausage, crackers, and cheese. Your bus driver meets you there and takes you back downtown. Our driver offered to drop us wherever we wanted so that was nice. Don’t forget to tip your guide! Again, I’d highly recommend this float trip.
