My family did an afternoon of rafting down the Colorado in Moab while on a cross country road trip. After hiking in Arches National Park in blazing /record setting July heat, an afternoon on the water was exactly what we needed to keep from an all out mutiny among our 4 kids (10, 11, 12, and 14). All of the kids had an absolute blast!
The company was clear that this would be more of a lazy river rafting experience with a few pockets of rapids than a true “white water rafting” experience at the time I booked. That was great because our guide Robby was totally encouraging of us getting in the water. All 6 of us took a swim in the Colorado at various points on the trip and it was an amazing way to see the views of the dramatic Moab landscape from way below in the river vs. up high in the national parks.
It was nice to have an experience with all the kids, nobody was on their phones—and we met another lovely family on vacation with a son who was also 11. The kids all bonded and exchanged phone numbers and it was nice to see them make their own road trip friends.
For the cost, it was totally worth it and the half day was MORE than enough time for us. Robby was a fantastic guide, very mellow and also extremely attentive when things got even the slightest bit serious. He quickly went into action when a kayaker in the group tipped over in some rapids and gave us all clear instruction to keep the kayaker and ourselves safe and calm. It was a great first rafting experience and I’d highly recommend mild to wild to others. Great staff, clear communication, and a wonderful and well organized experience.
