A separate van picked us up at Dooky Chase after lunch and brought us to the main van, which we appreciated. The Tour Guide was very knowledgeable but his voice was a little monotone so it made me sleepy at times. I preferred the minibus to the large coach which was a similar price. The van itself however was quite worn out and the seats were stained. Also, I didn’t care for the laminated pictures of historical figures and the like they passed around. It reminded me of being in grade school and there were no children on the van. They covered a vast area of the city, with a special emphasis as hoped on Hurricane Katrina. In seeing how the city flooded, I realized it was not really something I could have understood by foot. Apparently the tour buses are not allowed to go to the lower ninth ward which is still in disarray. I considered doing a separate walk in myself but was cautioned that the area is rather rough and has a high crime rate.

Hey LivDaley, Thank you so much for taking the time to wright about your experience with us. Like you mentioned we try our very hardest to accommodate our guests by picking them up. You are correct about the Lower Ninth Ward. As of 11/30/12 tour companies are not allowed to tour the Lower Ninth Ward. The only exceptions are (1) School buses transporting students; and (2) Buses used by non-profit organizations for the transportation of volunteers. We tour the Ninth Ward which includes Habitat for Humanity's Musician's Village which was launched through the help of Branford Marsalis & Harry Connick Jr. You will also see abandoned homes, FEMA Codes and water marks left over from Katrina on this tour. If you really want to go to the Lower Ninth Ward I would recommend you catch a taxi, Uber, Lyft or a limo out there. For whatever it's worth, it's been 13 years since Katrina. Today, tours that talk about Katrina show recovery more so than devastation. We all talk about what happened, we talk about the devastation but today there really isn't anything more than abandoned homes, FEMA Codes and water marks left to see. Which is great. We've come along way since August 29, 2005. We love showing off New Orleans recovery and resilience. Oh and great news...all of our vans are spotless! One of our driver/guides liked handing out laminated pictures of historical figures as if you were in grade school. Today we no longer do this. We only show a picture or two that are necessary for the understanding of New Orleans lay out. Thanks again for your review! It was actually really helpful in us offering the best tour we can! Best Regards, Ozzy Laporte, Jr. Driver/Guide Celebration Tours NOLA 300!!!

We had a good experience with Celebration Tours. Other than finding the office and getting our tickets. did not find them overly friendly. But on the Katrina Recovery Tour. You see a lot of the levee, some of the city, stopped at a place you can buy a really expensive cup of coffee. You DO NOT get to see the part of New Orleans that got hit bad. You do not get to see the homes that have been left there with the trees growing out of them. The neighbors complained about so many tour buses coming thru and they are not allowed to go there any more. Which is what we wanted to see. So the tour was not that good for us. It had some interesting points. Oh & you get to hear Brad Pitt's name about 20 times..

Hey Mrs. Lisa H, I'm sorry to hear your experience was only good and not an amazing tour. I apologize you weren't able to book tours through our office. We strictly use our office as a staging area for our driver/guides to pick up the van they will be using to give the tour. Considering our office is located outside of the downtown area it is not set up for walk ins. If you'd like to book a tour with Celebration we ask that you call, book online or book through your concierge. We cover a lot more than "some of the city". We actually cover 30 miles of New Orleans on our City Tour. We do stop roughly half way through the tour at City Park to enjoy the sculpture garden, coffee, beignets and a restroom break at Morning Call. A cup of coffee at Morning Call is $2.20. An order of 3 beignets also costs $2.20. You are correct, as of 11/30/12 New Orleans created a city ordinance which does not allow tour companies to travel through the Lower Ninth Ward. The only buses allowed today are school busses and busses transporting volunteer workers. Hurricane Katrina rolled through August 29, 2005. So we've had 13 years to rebuild and recover. There really isn't "devastation" to see anymore. Sincerely, this is the only home I know of that still has a tree growing out of it: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60864-d12336348-Reviews-Scrap_House_Katrina_Memorial_Sculpture-New_Orleans_Louisiana.html It's a sculpture on Convention Center Blvd. If you toured the Lower Ninth Ward you would see abandoned homes, vacant lots, where homes were, FEMA Codes and water marks. Where we tour, in the Ninth Ward, you'll see the same thing. Plus you get to see Musician's Village, a little neighborhood created to make sure our musicians had a home to come home to. We also take you to the 17th street canal where you can see one of the four major breach/failure points due to Katrina/Army Corps. This canal was highly televised through the news coverage of the Hurricane. On top of that we take our guests through the Lakeview neighborhood, arguably just as devastated as the Lower Ninth Ward. Lakeview received over 14ft of water, destroying the neighborhood. It took 6 weeks to drain New Orleans from the water that flooded the city. At least 80% of New Orleans was in fact devastated due to the flood. I do apologize if you heard Brad Pitt's name about 20 times. Honestly I can only think of 2 things I would consider mentioning on the tour about Brad Pitt. And that's if someone asked about him. Thanks again for reviewing Celebration Tours and informing us about your experience. As always thank you for coming to New Orleans!
