My companion on this trip New Orleans was visiting the city for the first time. I picked this tour because the route and the length looked very similar to a city/Katrina recovery tour offered by Tours by Isabelle, which I took a few years ago and really enjoyed. I now wish we had used Tours by Isabelle on this trip instead of Celebration. Both companies pick you up at your hotel in a van and start off in the French Quarter. They both take a break in City Park, which is long enough for you to take in the Sculpture Garden or have coffee and beignets at Morning Call. Both tours have some focus on explaining the breaches and flooding after Katrina. Isabelle went into much more detail. Both tours do a cemetery visit, but Celebration just drives through one of the less atmospheric cemeteries, whereas Isabelle lets out the passengers and the guide gives a very detailed and up close explanation of the unique burial system. The Isabelle tour covered more ground and more neighborhoods. The guide I had with Isabelle had much formal education in local history and she had worked as a docent in the Louisiana state museums. Our Celebration guide's main credential was simply that his family were native New Orleanians. There were questions he could not answer, and people on the tour were resorting to smart phones to find out simple facts. Ozzie was a nice young man, though. The Isabelle van's windows were bigger and had better visibility. It was sometimes had to see the things our guide was pointing out, especially if you were not seated on the same side of the van as whatever we were supposed to see. The Celebration Tours tour was better than nothing, but the competing company's similar tour was far more informative and interesting, and in the same amount of time.

Hey GuitarBuilder, I really appreciate your review of our City Tour and the comparison to Isabelle's City Tour. To be totally clear, I'm definitely not a docent. I have a B.A. in Philosophy of all things. Even though I don't have a university education in the history of New Orleans I was educated by one of the most passionate tour guides we have here in the city...my Dad "Oz". I've been a tour guide now for 2 years and I'll be the first to admit I still have a lot to learn. This is why I love my job because I'm constantly learning about this beautiful city I call home. Every tour Isabelle offers is great. Our city tour costs $49 where Isabelle's costs $90. I believe in our city tour and I think our price is more than fair. And even though I've only been doing this for a short time, I think my tour is... Pretty Awesome. Thanks again for your review! Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun and informative. Small group and very comfortable. Would recommend.

Our hotel booked us with Celebration Tours in June. We were picked up in a small van by Ozzie Jr. who has lived in New Orleans all of his life. He proceeded to give us a thorough, diverse, humorous, and personal tour of New Orleans and we learned a lot about Hurricaine Katrina and its aftermath. The small tour size allowed for easy communication and lots of answers to questions as they came up. I came away with a really good sense of the neighborhoods plus where to eat, hear music, and enjoy the best of the city. I highly recommend going on this tour the minute you arrive to get your bearings and learn a lot of the city. Request Ozzie Jr. but I hear his Dad is great too. It was a very well spent $50.
