The trip was comprehensive, but the vehicle was cramped and only a window seat afforded adequate views. The guide was friendly, but had limited knowledge of the area. Nothing overly negative, just nothing outstanding.

our guide was interesting and mostly took us around the city as advertised but not to the Katrina recovery side of things particularly. I understand his problem - the city does not want the visitors to see the neighborhoods left unfixed from the damage but since we cannot go see it why advertise that it is part of the tour?

Hey grandmawithabus, We really appreciate your review of our "City of New Orleans and Katrina Recovery Tour". Just for clarification, to anyone who is interested, our entire tour shows Katrina recovery. Besides the French Quarter, which did not flood, every other part of New Orleans was affected by flood waters. The flood levels in our city ranged anywhere from less than a foot of water all the way up to and over 20 feet. So besides the French Quarter you saw nothing but recovery of New Orleans. If you were looking for devastation on this tour, I'm excited to tell you, there is no longer devastation to show here. Based off of your review, I'm pretty sure you're confused why we didn't bring you to the Lower Ninth Ward. We do not go to the lower 9th since that would be illegal based off a recent city ordinance that prohibits tours to drive through this area. This ordinance has nothing to do with NOLA covering up devastation or recovery. The ordinance completely revolves around the people living here, understandably, not wanting tours driving through their neighborhood. Nowhere do we advertise that we bring anyone into the Lower Ninth Ward. On our tour we drive through the Ninth Ward which had at least 5 feet of flood water, Lake Vista which had 6 feet and Lake View which had 10+ feet of water. We show our tour where one of the four major breaches occurred during Katrina, FEMA Search & Rescue Codes and we also show water level marks. All evidence of Katrina. Not only that, we show you what the Army Corps of Engineers has created to make sure we are "SAFE" from future storms. We dive super deep into Katrina: what happened, went wrong, important stories left out and even personal experiences. Ultimately, this tour's focus is New Orleans' history, culture, food, music & architecture. Katrina is a part of our history so it will always be a part of our tour. If you're interested in all things Katrina, I recommend you take a private tour with us. Some people are interested in Katrina, some want to learn about our unique culture, unique burial process, architecture and some very simply want to know why our streets are all one way! The only way we can focus on one topic of interest is through a private tour. Otherwise, we have to keep in mind that there are other people on the tour with varying interests. So, we have to cater to everyone and try our best to cover all interests and of course all things New Orleans. Lastly, I have to recommend that you ask questions on your tour. If you are interested in a specific topic, ask your tour guide. They would be more than happy to give you: personal experiences, thoughts and opinions all about your topic question. When no questions are being asked we are forced to cover New Orleans with a broader stroke. Questions receive more detailed and specific commentary. Our tour was easy to set up, and pick-up occurred as promised. Our tour guide did a good job taking us to different quarters of New Orleans, near and far, including areas hit by Katrina and the shores of Lake Pontchartrain.
