We were in NYC last week and were so pleased to attend this excellent tour. Sean was an exceptional guide in all respects - knowledgeable, inclusive of all, and careful to project his voice that all could hear. My wife and I both thought that it was the highlight of our three days in NYC. I have read Clint Smith’s book “How the Word is Passed” and have visited several of the other he describes, including Goree Island and the Whitney Plantation. As a native New Yorker and amateur historian , I was amazed to see and learn so much that we “were never taught in school”. Thank you Sean! We definitely will do other Inside Out Tours on our next visit to NYC! John and Em

I learned about this tour from the book How The Word is Passed and it did not disappoint. In fact, it was absolutely wonderful and I have recommended it to a a dozen people in just the last 24 hours. Our tour guide - truth teller - was a former high school history teacher and he brought history alive. I am an avid reader and yet learned so much that I never knew. Be ready to get more educated and walk a few miles in comfortable shoes.

This tour was extremely interesting and we learnt a lot about the history of slavery and the local area. We visited several important historic locations within NYC on our tour and our tour guide was very good. The most impressive was the central area of the African Burial Ground.
