I can't recommend this tour highly enough. My partner and I learned so much about New York's relationship with slavery and enslaved people throughout history, and how that history is still reflected in New York's sites and buildings (and in America overall) today. Our guide, Donald, was incredibly knowledgeable, as well as friendly and a great storyteller - I honestly wish the tour had been a few hours longer! We will 100% be booking into some of Inside Out's other tours when we're next in New York. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This tour was incredibly informative and interesting. Our tour guide (think his name was Sean) was very knowledgeable, had a great tour guide voice that carried to everyone and was eager to answer any and all questions. I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in learning more about the subject matter (slavery and the underground railroad in New York) or really anyone interested in the history of New York City in general.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of slavery in NYC. We saw sites we would not have known about including free Black men who were an important part of the city's history. The most moving for me were the slave market site and the African American Burial Ground. I highly recommend Clint Smith's chapter on the tour in his book "How The Word Is Passed".
