Believe the reviews that this is an excellent walking tour. Our guide, Saba, was extremely knowledgeable about slavery from its origins in the mid-east to its eventual spread to the United States. Saba gave us much information about slavery in the US, the underground railroad, key black abolitionists and social activists, the founding of the AMEZion church, etc. He encouraged questions and fully answered them. Unfortunately most of the landmark buildings we would want to see on this tour (example: slave market) , no longer exist, having been razed years ago and replaced by high rises. There is minimal walking in the beginning of the tour with an 8 block walk at the end to visit and learn about the African Burial Ground National Monument. I walked away from this tour much more informed and glad to have attended it.

It was an honor to experience Ludie’s storytelling of this Underground Railroad and Enslavement in NYC history, which says so much about who we are today and the future of freedom we are still working toward. I study this period extensively, and Ludie brought it to life and gave so much of herself while doing so. She is a truthteller and a visionary. Take this tour!

Everything was excellent - from the very begining to the end of the tour Ludi told the history with passion and nuance and gave a passionnate perspectives to understand this history. She took all precautions and told that there is no place for shame or blaming but explaining. Definitively a great and profound experience for me.
