We took the tramway to the top of the mountain during our recent trip to Palm Springs. The tramway is very easy to find since there are several directional signs on the drive to it. There were not very many people visiting when we arrived around 5:30 on a Thursday, so there was plenty of parking at the closest parking lot. We were able to walk right up to the counter to buy our tickets. After a 10 minute wait we were on the tram car and heading up the mountain. The views were awesome, and the rotating floor allows you to see all of it. Once you get off the tram car it is a bit confusing as to where you are supposed to go, but the building is not that big so you get your bearings pretty quickly. We walked around to enjoy the views, and walked down the paved trail into the forest. We had made reservations for dinner at the Peaks restaurant, but it is closed because of remodeling. Instead we ate in the Forest View restaurant. It was clearly set up as a temporary dining space while the main restaurant is under construction. Dinner was fine, but we probably should have skipped it since the atmosphere was't great and we didn't have the view of the valley. The ride down in the dark was also amazing with the valley all lit up. This is definitely worth the ride up the mountain to see the views. Next time we would probably skip the food at the top.
