Based on the great reviews, we scheduled a salmon fishing day when our cruise ship docked in Ketchikan. We booked it well in advance directly thru the company's website (and not thru Princess) to make sure we did not miss out and we were very glad we did!
Jimmy met us at the bottom of the gang plank and got us quickly onto the boat-we got our fishing licenses on-line before we left town so we were ready to roll. He was able to bring the boat close to the cruise ship dock so no van needed.
We had a great time fishing. We caught our first salmon within 15 minutes of Jimmy getting the lines out, and we could all relax, knowing that we would not get skunked. We ended up with 10 salmon and our rewards arrived today, 6 days after we got back!
Jimmy was GREAT-knowledgeable, experienced and very interesting and personable-we felt like we were fishing with an old pal. Jimmy let us stay out a little longer than expected since the fish were really biting-we got 2 more as we were pulling in the lines, including the biggest of the day, a 10+ pound silver salmon. As we were heading back, Jimmy even spotted a couple of whales and we got to see the spout and tail from about 150 yards from where we were.
While it was a great excursion and we were all thrilled with the day, I have to give one warning-there is no bathroom facility on the boat, only a bucket with a lid. The guys were ok with it, but our wives were, to put it mildly, a little less excited. It definitely cut into our drink consumption!
