Just being on the water with Justin was a pleasure. He and his family have lived in the area for multiple generations, and he has a true respect for the water and habitat. The famous and picturesque Ravenel Bridge in Charleston was named after a relative who was instrumental in its funding. His mother was and may have been the only female commercial crabber in the area.
I wanted someone to take me to Deveaux Bank before sunrise to see the lift off of the 20,000 whimbrels (birds). What impressed me most was Justin was having a family day on Saturday and asked if we could talk the next day. On 24 hours' notice, we put together an ecotour, met at 5:30 and headed out.
He could not have been more competent, respectful, and totally focused on what I wanted from the experience. I will be back for fly fishing for red drum in the fall.
The Whimbrels didn't cooperate, but we saw thousands of nesting brown pelicans, terns and gulls from a respectful distance. A scruffy bald eagle was perched on a warning sign eyeballing the buffet line.
A really nice young family man, competent waterman, and based on the other reviews, I have no doubt a fabulous fishing guide. Come in the fall for Red Drum on the Fly.
