If you would like to say you’ve been through a rainforest and get close-up photos of gorgeous, vegetation, yourself in a lava tube, a hassle-free visit with an oceans swim at a black sand beach - and swim in a waterfall. This is worth it. There are additional attractions other reviewers have already addressed. We also saw dozens of sea turtles on our trip. The Question to ask yourself is: is it worth it to me to use a full long day to do these things? If so, this is for you. If you’d rather do them at a different location or on a different island and perhaps in shorter time then the Road to Hana may not be for you. If you take the Road, I recommend taking a tour and I would go with Valley Isle Excursions without hesitation. I love to drive, but I would not have been able to enjoy this experience if I was driving . Our driver was Daniel, and he even remembered the little things like bringing tissue paper for bathroom stops at public locations in case there was none.

We were picked up early from our resort. Breakfast was served at a beautiful location Maui plantation. The drive to Hāna was gorgeous and we had many stops to admire the view and of course to buy banana bread. Lunch was served in Hāna - delicious chicken and curry. On the way back we stopped at the black sand beach, waterfalls, a beautiful peninsula and at Ho’okipa beach to see sea turtles. Our tour guide Charleston was very knowledgeable especially about the many plants and flowers we saw. He also taught us a lot about Hawaiian culture and history. We would not have enjoyed or learned nearly as much about this amazing rainforest if we had not taken this tour. It is 100% worth it!

Amazing trip. Everything went smoothly from pickup to drop off. Breakfast and lunch were delicious. Paula was very informative about the areas and the culture. The waterfalls were great. The black sand and lava rock were great . Loved the stop to see the sea turtles in the sand.
