I came to Maui thinking I could drive the Road to Hana myself, but I'm so glad that I did this tour!! The bus has big windows for a small group and going on the tour allowed me to not have to concentrate on driving around all of the 600+ turns and 54 one lane bridges and to see all of the waterfalls and views of valleys and ocean cliffs. It also rained torrentially at parts and I'm glad I didn't have to drive through that. It was also informative. Our guide Travis was incredibly informative and fun and pointed out all waterfalls. He gave a great history of Hawaii and always checked in with what we wanted to hear. It's actually sad that we live in a time that some people are offended about historical facts to the extent that our guide has to ask us for permission to tell us facts about his own culture, history and home, but such is the case now. So, if you hate history and are easily offended, then you know that on this tour you will have a vote on whether to hear it or not. Luckily, our bus opted to hear it and it was incredibly informative.
The tour offered breakfast and lunch. The breakfast was good, but the lunch in Hana was delicious! There were several stops for bathroom breaks and to see sites. Some of the stops had shopping opportunities. We were never pressured to buy anything, but I liked what I saw at all the stops and did end up buying stuff at every stop - banana bread, shave ice, honey chili macadamia nuts, some reasonably priced jewelry.
There was a woman in our group who had done this tour 6 times!! And I get it, I would definitely do this tour again on my next visit to Maui!!

We love when we hear back from our guests, and they share deep appreciation to learn of our history and culture. That is special and we thank you for your valuing that aspect of our tour experience.
Choosing to tour vs driving the Road to Hana yourself is a win-win for both the visitor and our east Maui community. Our drivers know the road well and they know the proper courtesies of the road. Going with a group of others help reduce the number of cars on the road. A guided tour better ensures visitor safety plus you get to see and learn more if you let a local pro take you there. It's a long day but your guide packs a lot into your tour and makes the most out of the long drive to and from.
Thank you for choosing to make some purchases from the local vendors out there. So many good eats and unique souvenirs to commemorate your Maui trip and Hana visit. That is amazing to hear about the woman who has taken our tour 6 times! It makes our day to hear that! Hope we get to host you again on a second tour next time you're back on Maui. If you haven't done so, look into our Haleakala Sunrise tour. That is also a wonderful Maui experience you've just got to try!
