With 30 years of teaching experience, a NM Level 2 Art Teaching license, 10 years of experience as the founder and executive director of the Tarnoff Art Center(a 501c3) based here in the Santa fe area, and the current co-owner of Artful Soul Creative Experiences in Downtown Santa Fe, Laura brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her classes. As she is dedicated to guiding students on their artistic journey . Laura graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, where she underwent a rigorous academic art education. Her disciplined training included studying the human figure and mastering various traditional art mediums such as pastels, oil painting, watercolors, pen and ink, and much more. Laura's own artwork is a testament to her vibrant and painterly style, ranging from tight realism to wild non-objective abstractions. Known for her "Figurative Abstractions," Laura infuses her work with emotionally charged colors, figurative distortions, and expressive brushstrokes.

Laura is a very outgoing and enthusiastic instructor. Her art is Abstract and very rooted in personal experiences. Her background with teaching with local schools is evident with her patients with adults. I hadn't painted since 1973, and with Laura's pointers and patient with my questions, was successful in the completion of my watercolor landscape. Laura was also very knowledgeable about the Santa Fe restaurant venue, the Ancient Cultural sites, and just about anything that New Mexico and surrounding States has to offer tourist. This was a great experience for me, and I recommend it if you want to explore your Artistic side.

Where to even begin! This past May after finishing another year of teaching I made my way down to visit family in Santa Fe and enjoy the start of summer. To start, Artful Soul couldn't have been located in a better place with a beautifully unique exterior holding winding hallways of shops within (it was nice to be able to explore the building as we showed up early before the class started). With the class itself, it was clear that art had been a part of Laura's life and was a part of who she is. Throughout the class I learned that she had at one point been a teacher in schools and that is a skill that clearly stayed with her when it came to guiding everyone in the class. While her instructions were spot on, it was her encouragement and character that made the class everything. She was insightful, fun, and her knowledge of everything Santa Fe went far beyond what I feel I could find on any blog posts. Thanks for a great experience, Laura!

These two ladies create a fun painting experience. I've pretty much disliked these parties in the past because of frustration (I'm not a painter!) due to lack of attention or explanation from the paint party leader. Mickey and Laura are fantastic artists and their love of art and teaching art shows as they give you personal attention to teach you and help you along the way and that removes any frustration! Highly recommend for a fun time for anyone!
