1st Republic Brewing Co
These breweries are sample itineraries only. All schedules are subject to change. The founders of 1st Republic Brewing, Shawn Trout and Mike Drake, both served on active duty and with distinction overseas before returning to Vermont to serve up some of the best Veteran crafted brews. In fact, 1st Republic was voted 2018’s VT Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year. They love everything about beer from brewing it to drinking it to teaching about it and to sharing it. Friends, family, and beer lovers can gather ’round the taproom for fun, games, locally delivered food, and raising a glass to good beer and good times.
5
Queen City Brewery
Founded in 2014 by long-time friends and brewers Paul Hale, Paul Held, Phil Kaszuba, and Maarten van Ryckevorsel, Queen City Brewery brews a variety of traditional ales and lagers, as well as several unique specialty beers with a focus on giving the customer a unique experience with unexpected notes in their beers that they’ve aged and fermented to produce complex flavors unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. (So yeah, we’re pretty much changing your life by bringing you here. No need to thank us.) On our tour, you’ll see why this foursome rose to frothy success as you sip your way through their suds, including a rare style they brew call ‘Steinbeer’ that’s brewed with hot rocks. The process grants less temperature control to the brewer and imparts a smoky, caramel flavor. Yep, we’ll say it again: life-changing.
6
Zero Gravity Craft Brewery
Founded in 2004, Zero Gravity Brewing was born inside a restaurant that Flatbread head brewer, Destiny Saxon, and Zero Gravity brewmaster, Paul Sayler, created called American Flatbread Burlington Hearth. For years, they brewed exclusively out of the brewpub location, but as their popularity and demand grew, in 2012, they began distributing Zero Gravity for off-premise sales, and two years later, they had fully maxed out the production at the Flatbread Brewpub. Forced to find more space, they moved operations to a beautiful 30-barrel facility in Burlington’s South End Arts District, and in the spring of 2015, the Pine Street Brewery was born.

This is a great way to spend a day in Burlington! Special without being hokey, professional without being impersonal. We loved it. Nick, our guide, was outstanding in his knowledge, friendliness and patience. We were a party of three that joined a bachelor party of six and Nick made sure we all felt comfortable enjoying the tour together. Most importantly, Nick made sure we tried delicious beers! At each stop, there was something for everyone. Our tour included lunch, and as other reviews point out, the stop at Barnyard is fantastic. Vermont pizza and beer are a TREAT! Get some!

My partner and I purchased our tickets through a fundraiser last year by the Central Vermont Humane Society where we adopted our dogs. We had no idea what to expect on the tour. We both like beer, and we only live 2 hours away, so this was a good trip for us. We stayed at the Starlight Inn and Lyft drive us. We had an address to meet the van for the tour. We happened to see the tour van parked at the address for the previous tour, so that made us confident it was our destination. Otherwise, you think an exit door for Ben & Jerry's on Cherry Street is the address. Anyway, the van arrived on time. Matt presented himself to us with exuberance and humor. After you have your licenses viewed, you join others who were picked up at another site. Matt was knowledgeable about the history of beer. He was funny as he drove us to our first destination. We introduced ourselves and announced our preferred beer type. We also gave an account of our best beer experience. Matt is suited for entertainment. He chose three to four beers at each of the 3 breweries that would best fulfill the group and at least one that would be different than any of the others. I think he did a very good job choosing for us. Since I don't have more than two alcoholic drinks in a week, I had to remind myself to pace myself. Water was easily accessible. I don't know what goes into choosing which 3 breweries we go to, but I know they differed than the other tour going at the same time. Our favorite was Weird Window. The tour began at 5:30 and ended a little after 9. We received pretzels to share at the first place. Maybe if we asked for food at the other places, it would have been provided. I should've brought a portable snack with me. Eventually, we realized Matt was in training as Todd was along as support and review for the last two places. Matt did an excellent job making beer choices. He also was entertaining, funny, and knowledgeable. I learned a lot on the tour from Matt and others on the tour. I loved the tour because of Matt. Great job!
