My Dad fought in WWII and was a decorated war hero, so this means a lot to me. I am telling you it was a very emotional experience and the tour was stupendous! You really get to explore a large portion of this ship, on which Japan formally surrendered at the end of that war. You get to see the deck with tons of aircraft, both older and newer, the inside, and you can talk with vets about the ship as well. There are nice eating places to grab a bite (nothing fancy but good food) and even some entertainment such as swing bands and singers. It is in a nice park on the harbor with statues and memorials and lots to see, and walkable to downtown, the historic and fun Gaslamp section, etc. HIGHLY recommended!
