Our first time in Phoenix and with limited time we booked this trip. We went on Monday January 29th. The tour company was Detours and our tour guide was Jonathan. We were picked up at our hotel at 630 am and returned at 800 pm. The trip was fantastic. First and foremost, enough cannot be said about Jonathan as a tour guide. He was personable, funny and most important knowledgeable about both Sedona, the Grand Canyon and Arizona in general. There were 10 people in the group from both stateside and one international visitor. The trip was fun, informative and well worth the price of admission. Jonathan made the trip outstanding. The details he provided along the way and in Sedona and the Grand Canyon were invaluable. We even stopped in Williams, Arizona on the return trip to see a part of American nostalgia as the last city on Route 66 before I-40. The lunch from Frank’s deli place in Sedona was excellent with huge sandwiches on fresh baked cibatta bread with homemade cookies and chip was fantastic. Even the story that Don Ho was the previous owner of Frank’s added to the trip. Seeing home previously owned by Lucille Ball and the Doublemint twins and those allegedly owned by Robert Deniro and Sharon Stone added to the fun. The Grand Canyon was clearly the main event with spectacular views from the south rim and a stop at El Tovar lodge which was seen on National Lampoon’s Vacation with Chevy Chase. The sites in Sedona including Snoopy rich and Goblet rock were also breathtaking. We lucked out with the weather as it was unseasonably warm with minimal snow in the Grand Canyon and temperatures near 60 degrees. The group of people on the tour, especially the four Cincinnati girls, were all friendly and added to the enjoyment of the trip. As we were told before the trip, words cannot describe the beauty and scope of the Grand Canyon and to a lesser extent Sedona. The long day is well worth the tour and just makes you want to return and spend more time in each place. Of note this tour did not go through the painted desert or the Navajo reservation nor does it take you to the skywalk. Even without those stops, this tour is well worth the price of admission and an excellent value at that.
