This popped up while I was booking other travel plans, and I am so glad it did. We squeezed this into our plans, and it was so worth it. We flew in at 3 pm threw our bags down, changed our clothes and headed into town to eat a lite dinner and see the local shops. Walked to the office, and checked in. The staff worked very hard, and did a great job with the group. The sail was nice, and once we had our gear on and got into the water, they explained everything well. We felt safe. Saw 12 Manta Rays. It was amazing. Suddenly my 13 year old daughter told me something either scratched her or bit her.
She was shaking, so I lead her back to the boat, conveniently it was time to get out anyway. Once on the boat we discovered she had been stung by a Portuguese man-o-war. Staff had vinegar on hand to remove the sting followed by ice. Had cookies and hot chocolate on the ride back.
We brought change of clothes and a towel for the ride back so we were not cold. Put her in the shower and gave her an Advil and the next morning she forgot all about getting stung. She was the only one on the boat that was stung. I think it was because she lost her pool noodle so her legs were not horizontal while the plankton was there. Still a very cool excursion, and memorable addition to our trip/vacation. Totally recommend. Everyone we met while on Kona had done this already or had reservations to do it. Don't miss this one!

Wow! This is an incredible story; a happy ending constantly improves it. We're sorry she got stung, but so glad it was relatively mild. She's tough. We prepare and train for nearly every possible scenario, and while we're never happy to use those emergency preparedness skills, we're so glad we plan for this. Mahalo for being understanding and remaining positive. We're thrilled that you enjoyed the experience overall! Mahalo for joining us - The KONASTYLE Ohana.
