From the get go, Killarney and his crew were very informative & attentive towards us. The vessel we sailed in, was a catamaran, so I’m guessing with two hulls, it’s more stable.
Before we even got to the harbor, Travis welcomed us, and told us a little about the history of the Big Island.
Now on to the trip itself. It took us around 35 minutes to reach our destination, soft drinks and other beverages were offered along the way to the destination, which is in front of the Sheraton Hotel.
Killarney explained about the lava flowing into the sea there providing something or other, I can’t rightly remember. This is the reason all the Manta Rays congregate there. We had wetsuits, masks & goggles to wear, and when we were ready, the crew lowered a staircase for us to enter the water. Once in the water, we were told to hold on to a float with arms outstretched, and they placed a noodle around your waist to keep us buoyant. They then switched on some special blue lights to attract plankton, which ultimately attracts the rays.
It’s was an unbelievable experience, with one of the rays named Ali Baba, doing a barrel roll, right underneath us!
We spent around 30 minutes on the water, which is more than enough time to see what you want. Not only rays but also shoals of fish swimming around, pretty neat to see also!
Once back onboard, we were offered hot chocolate to warm us up, another nice gesture.
From start to finish, I cannot praise & thank our captain and crew for taking good care of us.
A first class experience & a first class company to use!
