Join your professional/certified guides in the water as you snorkel with the majestic hahalua (manta rays). Snorkel equipment, instruction, wetsuits and swim noodles are provided. We offer discounted self parking at the Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha Hotel. Parking charge is $13 for up to 5.5 hours. Please remember to bring your parking ticket with you at check-in.
PLEASE NOTE that trip start times VARY throughout the year to accommodate for the time changes of the setting sun.
PLEASE NOTE that full-face snorkel masks are NOT allowed to be used by guests
Not recommended for travelers that are not strong swimmers. If guest is not a competent swimmer (as determined by the Captain and/or crew), they will be directed to immediately return to the vessel. In such instances the guest will NOT be refunded
Not recommended for travelers that are prone to seasickness / motion sickness
Guests weighing more than 300 lb (136 kg) are NOT allowed in the water as our water entry / exit staircase has a specific weight limit
Not recommended for travelers with a history of panic attacks

What an amazing experience! Night snorkeling with manta rays is a MUST-DO while on Big Island. There are many companies running tours like this; here are some reasons we would choose Kona Style again: 1) The people were amazing! From the person who answered questions via phone at the time of booking, to the office folks who checked us in for our tour, to the onboard crew, every single person we encountered was helpful and friendly (Extra shout out and thanks to Max, who kept us safe and laughing in the water!) 2) They allow ride-alongs and young children onboard. Our party of 9 included grandparents, parents, teens, and a baby, and while not everyone went in the water, everyone was able to ride on the boat together. 3) We often prefer small-group outings to one of this size (36 on our tour), but in this case, all the tour companies end up in the same location anyway, and having the amenities of the larger boat and crew was great. 4) The hot chocolate and music on the ride home kept everyone smiling until the very end. Mahalo, Kona Style! 10/10!

Pros and cons which I’m sure are highly dependent on conditions and Manta Ray activity. Pros: Crew was great - especially managing everyone in the water Boat was nice Very good instruction on safety and how to manage yourself in the water Quality, new gear Cons (all out of the company’s control): The water was choppy, really choppy so much so that I was feeling it before we even left the doc. By the time we got halfway through, several people joined me in the back of the boat from sea sickness. I have had motion sickness in the past but not the past few times I’ve been on similar boats so it didn’t even cross my my mind that I would get sick - my bad; I don’t remember reading that in reviews so I think it’s a good thing to know and I don’t know how dependent it is on the weather (which was clear) or wind, etc so might be worth asking if you get motion sickness. They seemed to have a pretty good protocol for it so I’m guessing it happens often. The water was also very choppy when we were out on the board waiting for the Rays, that is when I had to go back to the boat; I lasted about ten minutes. There was 1 Manta Ray that my family saw for a total of five seconds. This is obviously out of the crews control; you go to a place with about ten other boats so they obviously know what it’s going to be like and how much activity there is. But again, that’s the risk you take I guess. In general, to me the whole thing was a bit chaotic. Everyone in the boat was hanging on boards very close together, not everyone has the same comfort level in the water, people were yelling, you had kids trying to control noodles that were floating away. I was with two kids 12 and 14 and they enjoyed the boat ride out but also thought it was chaotic in the water and both stayed in the whole time but felt like they were “sticking it out”. All this being said, if you experienced a lot of Manta Ray activity it would probably be worth it. There is just no guarantee and if you experience sea sickness I would consider that before booking.

Aloha, Tanya. This is a fair assessment. We're very sorry you got seasick! Our crew is experienced in mitigating the discomforts of seasickness because we host thousands of guests annually. We read every review, and some guests recommend motion sickness medication, but it can be easy to miss. Thanks to the two-hull design, our catamaran is more stable than most and is made of heavier materials (wood vs. fiberglass). While it doesn't solve the problem, it does help! The choppy waters are certainly not ideal. We'd like to ensure readers know that we would have aborted the tour if we felt the conditions were unsafe. While it rarely happens, and our team works tirelessly to mitigate the variables, things can feel hectic due to various factors. We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience as several factors came together on a single tour. Mahalo - The KONASTYLE Ohana.
