With admission suggested @ $20+ dollars, a membership might be worth it, if you're going to go to the museum a couple of times while you're in the City. (BTW, if you do attend twice during your NYC visit, you will NOT see everything. I repeat: you will NOT see EVERYTHING. It is huge!) For $115, you (and a companion) get in several times at no cost and a VERY SHORT LINE! The latter is what made me finally become a member about 5 years ago. And recently I learned that there is an additional entrance available for members. OK, what's my personal favorite? Hands down, the Hall of Human Origins (1st floor, 77th St. side, west of "the canoe." You're greeted by the skeletons of the chimp, Homo sapiens (us), and the Neanderthal. Yes, to the left are our primate "relatives" up against the wall, but my fave is to the right. A huge plexiglass chart of the different homo species (and austropithicus ones) and the dates they flourished -- all laid out so that you can see who lived at the same time as another group. Then there's the cast of Lucy, and also an exhibit since the Homo Naledi was discovered 5 or 10 yrs ago in So. Africa. The museum is constantly having to update this exhibit because new stuff keeps on getting discovered. Of course if you're into dinosaurs or ancient mammals there's tons of that stuff too. I'm looking forward to the Minerals being re-opened. Whatever you're into, it's a pretty sure bet it's there. (Oh, almost forgot to mention the Planetarium. See the Dark Universe if you haven't. If you're a member, it's included for you & your friend.)

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and giving valuable tips for future visitors. The Museum has been unusually crowded this summer as two halls are closed for extensive renovations. Thank you for supporting the Museum and buying a membership. Added plus is the priority entrance.

As Expected, the museum was very busy on a summer Friday in August . As in any museum, one needs to choose what they want to see and do with their time . We went through 2 or 3 floors of exhibits , including the origins of man , mammals, life in the ocean , outer space . Would have liked to seen moon landing exhibit, but ran out of time as were meeting a friend . Food stand outside had great hilal food after visiting. Restrooms were not easy to find and we went back to lower floor to use them by the food court each time !

Monday 17th June 2019 New York Holiday - We made our way to 72nd Street Station and Grays Papaya Hot Dog restaurant before walking into Central Park visiting Strawberry Fields, Bethesda Terrace & fountain, Loeb Boathouse & Boat rental before walking via Cedar Hill to the American Museum of Natural History. Our last location where we could use our NY Pass but like most of these Museums all the new exciting exhibitions needed additional tickets to access. Of the rest, most felt quite old fashioned and was a paradox of stuffed wild animals (Donated by I assume rich big-game hunters) and poorly rendered plastic models of other animals. The Easter Island figure (as seen in Night at the Museum) was in fact plastic as well. Some of the exhibits and the statue outside of Trueman felt quite racist and patronising. This place needs a general refurb for those visitors not paying the extra fees for specific exhibitions.
