I organized a group of friends (12 ladies) to go on Discover Sarasota's tour called The Amish Experience. Our tour guide, Kendra, was outstanding. It was so interesting to hear her stories about the Amish people who live and visit Sarasota. She spoke with warmth, kindness and humor. I highly recommend this tour!!

While waiting for the trolley car to arrive, they have a cute little shop you can go in. The ladies have a very cute variety of knickknacks that you can look at or purchase. Once you enter the trolley , the lady tells you a little about herself, and then the history of how the Amish was formed. I like the fact that the lady who does the tour originally came from an Amish family and really understood the history and the lifestyle from her own experiences. She told some of her own experiences while explaining the lifestyle of the Amish. We did stop over at the hotel Carlisle ( I think it’s called) and explained their connection with the Amish people. We also stopped over at Der Dutchman. That was enough to convince us to try that restaurant after the tour.!!!

This was our third tour with Discover Sarasota and they get better every time. We have always been aware of the large Amish presence in Sarasota but really knew very little about the Amish here or in our native Pennsylvania. Our guide, Lois, was extremely knowledgeable and informative. She comes from an Amish family and has a lot of first hand knowledge. We visited Pinecraft, which is a vacation destination for the Amish from up north. We saw the Carlisle Hotel, which is top rated. We also visited a quilting shop and der Dutchman Restaurant. Our tour went a little overtime which was fine, because Lois had lots of interesting information to relate. After the tour went went back to the restaurant and had a wonderful lunch.
