It’s okay. They haven’t gone to a massive effort on the (prerecorded) soundtrack. For a city with such a rich history, they only said so much of interest, and they attempted comedy with strictly limited success. You get single-use disposable headphones, so you can guess the quality. You had to position the flex right to get one or both earpieces working, but it’s a standard headphone jack, so you can use your own … preferably with inbuilt volume control, as the one on the unit the headphones plug into didn’t seem to work and was cranked way up. It got chilly, so people headed from the exposed top to the warm lower deck, contrary to the shouts of the driver (the only employee on the bus) who seemed to think that to walk around a moving double-decker was to dice with death. The poor chap would have a heart attack in London.

I booked my tour online and arrived with my family the following day at the first stop to see a line stretching 2 city blocks with Big Bus staff telling us that the wait time would exceed well over an hour to board a bus. I was appalled that they over-sell their service so aggressively. I requested a refund, and have had no luck, despite a customer service representative informing me that "this is not the kind of experience we aim to provide". I feel like Big Bus has now disappointed me twice, and they have taken advantage of me as a tourist in NYC.

Kossivi Adjeyi helped us with our tickets (we had NY Pass tickets), there was a big queue waiting to board the bus, but it soon whittled down as the buses were pretty regular. I would have liked to have done the whole trip but we didn't have enough time. We only did part of the downtown tour, using it from Times Square to Empire State Building and then from ESB to Brooklyn Bridge. The recorded commentary was a bit annoying as it kept on cutting out or would just repeat itself.
