We thought it was great! It can be slow to get to Battery Park but that’s cant be helped, it’s NY traffic! The guides were very knowledgeable and even when stopped still gave us a bit of background knowledge. It is chilly sat on top but we didn’t mind too much, the sun was out so that helped! Definitely take note where you got off as can be tricky to find your way back to the same spot.

If you go to New York in December or January don’t bother doing a hop on hop off unless your prepared to freeze in the cold on top of the bus. We took the southern route from Times Square intending to go down to the world trade centre memorial in the afternoon of December 20. The bus we ended up on was a nightmare to say the lease! When we got to battery park all passengers were told that Battery park would be the last stop and anyone who wanted to go elsewhere was to get off and get a public bus. We were also told that the bus would now be express back to Times Square and that there would be no stops on the east side. By this point it was FREEZING cold and getting dark. We finally managed to get one of the handful of seats down stairs. The bus then did a detour past Bryant Park. We asked to get off as we had definitely had enough. They flatly refused to let us off the bus again reiterating that it would be express to Times Square. A few blocks from Times Square next a building site on a relatively dark section of the street the bus stopped abruptly and told everyone to get off and pointed everybody in the direction of Times Square and were told we could walk the rest of the way. We had planned to do the night tour starting at 6pm but did not bother. Not Happy about this experience at all!! Don’t say I did not warn you. Save your money and don’t do it. Walk, use the subway, Taxi or Uber - but no hop on bus.

Good Afternoon Deb W, While the top level is partially covered, we always encourage passengers to dress for the cold weather. We would like to further investigate, as we monitor service in hopes to prevent unnecessary issues. Please email us at [email protected] with details of your experience and a copy of your ticket. Please know when we do have changes, while staff should be informing you of any, our website or app under “service information" inform passengers of detours and closures. As for refusal of departure, due to safety reason, all buses must stop at designated stops only. We only have route changes or cancellations, set upon us by the Department of Transportation and we follow all rules and regulations. I enjoyed it but no as much as I probably would have if I was not being constantly asked by the staff about tipping...
