I owned a travel agency for several years. Therefore, my comments are sincere whether pro or con and not really so much related to me personally but rather to the experience I believe my customers would have. If you're great, I'll say so. If not, I will also say so.
Too much chaos, too many boats per guide and ALL white lights should be disallowed firmly. That alone ruined the experience. Maybe give everyone a red colored plastic bag for their flashlights and phones (or lend them red flashlights) so they don't ruin the experiences of everyone around. It would be a simple fix. Note: pictures on the website show no one with white lights or phones in hand. Had I seen such a thing, I'd not have booked because I use a telescope and understand night vision. It takes about 30 minutes to develop your best night vision, and white light destroys it in a few seconds. (Look up rhodopsin or visual purple if interested.)
Everyone going here and there, banging into one another was annoying, but not so much and was mostly because there were too many boats in the group and everyone was blinded by the phones and white lights. (Did I mention that part?) Speed was difficult to maintain for my little girl who has been only once in a kayak. The result is that our guide, Jarrett, who was knowledgeable and had a lot to say could rarely be heard by us as we were in the back of a speedy pack. We only heard about 5% of what he said on the entire tour. Might as well have just rented a kayak ourselves and gone out alone in the dark to see some things for an hour or two.
I planned way ahead and specifically chose a night immediately adjacent to the new moon so it would be darkest. Unfortunately that was a waste of time because everyone had their phones, bright white flashlights, and even the life jackets had lights that were white or green or blue...and just a few red.
Note to BK: Red lights protect night vision. Everything else gives your night vision an instant reset and you have to wait a long time to get it back. We were mostly blinded the entire time. I sincerely recommend BK prohibit phones, white flashlights or anything that wrecks your night vision. This experience was ruined for us just because of the white light. I'm belaboring this point because you could easily fix it for almost no cost.
So, it was also way too long, unless maybe you're a regular kayaker. Maybe we just booked the wrong package. The website looks great...way different than you actually get to experience.
Summary of thoughts and suggestions: Reduce the guide/boat ratio to enable everyone to stay near the guide and hear the narration; completely eliminate white lights and phones (during new moon weeks at the very least;) keep a pace everyone can maintain (i.e. kids and elderly) or separate groups by self-proclaimed experience level; maybe prepare a USB chip for everyone to take home with great pictures so they don't have to bring phones and wreck the night vision.
We would not do it again. My 13yo daughter said, "There's three hours of my life I'll never get back." I agree.

Thanks for your review. We are required to have specific flashlights on all of our tours. They are necessary for safety and this is also a protocol mandated by our permit, which all kayaking companies in the area must also follow. We recommend that guests do not bring phones on the tour, as it's very difficult to photograph bioluminescence using a phone camera, but we do not prohibit it if they want to take photos of their paid experience. The length of our tours is stated on our website and is a typical length for a kayaking tour. If you had any questions or concerns about the length, our office is open every day and we are happy to help to find an alternative so you're still able to experience the bioluminescence, even if you're not comfortable being out for that length. All of our tours are made for beginners, but we will speak to our guides as we may need to tailor it more so. We do have a guest/guide ratio of 8 people per tour guide, and if guides were not following this ratio, please contact our office directly and let us know so we can look into it. Let us know if there's any questions we can answer or anything we can clarify. Thank you again.
