Looking for some whitewater while avoiding white-knuckle rapids? The 3 hour Upper Half Day trip is perfect for families, first-timers who are timid, or for those who aren’t strong swimmers – especially in June when we have high water. Enjoy fun rapids such as Hilarity Hole, Screaming Left, and Killer Fang. These rapids offer plenty of splashes and relatively easy navigation without the challenge of long rapids like the Mad Mile. This trip is packed with splashes and smiles!

This was our first time white water rafting and we had an absolute blast! The Gallatin River is incredibly scenic and the folks at Montana Whitewater were total professionals all the way through the process. They do a great job catering to families. I have two young kids, 7 and 10 years old and the guides and employees were so helpful with them. Also our guide Becca is a total bad a and made the experience for us even better. BIG thank you to MT Whitewater in making our first time so memorable.

Gavin took us on the more challenging 1PM trip down the Gallatin. It was awesome. First and foremost, it was very clear that safety was a top priority of the company. We received a great tutorial for the activity and COVID precautions were taken. The tour was on time and transportation to and from the river was what one would expect. While on the tour, Jake helped teach basics to people on the raft that had never been, we practiced team movements (very important), and Jake even gave us some cool info on all the rapids names and why they have the name. We navigated the Mad Mile without going overboard- a testament to Gavin's skills as a guide. Highly recommend!

Our trip was awesome. Guide was spectacular. Only issue was that when I booked the “moderate” raft trip, they forgot to mention that our 12 yr old son would have to get out and miss the best part of the trip (for safety reasons)! I wouldn’t have booked that trip if I knew we weren’t going to be able to do the whole thing together as a family. He was bummed, we were bummed. Other than that, it was great. They run a tight operation. Great sanitation practices, helpful, professional. Overall we had a great time!

So glad to hear you had a great time and good overall experience.! Unfortunately when the water levels are high (which they vary daily) we cannot take young kids down the Mad Mile. It is a dangerous section of river and for the safety of the kids we pull them out of the raft just for that section then put them back in. We do our best to let families know ahead of time but, it is always water level dependent and can be hard to tell in advance and we often have to make that call the day of. Hopefully you can come ride our more challenging section again when he is a little older and he can experience the well known Mad Mile. Thanks and hope to see you again!
