Explore the natural wonders of Molokini Crater, a volcanic islet 3 miles (4.8 km) off the coast of Maui, on this snorkeling tour from Maalaea. Surrounded by clear tropical waters, this extinct cone is home to many species of marine life, such as fish, sea urchins, sharks, manta rays, and coral. Molokini is a marine preserve, meaning nothing can be disturbed, keeping the island and underwater environment pristine. You'll also explore Turtle Town, and admire native birds. Two water slides, a glass bottom viewing room, and a "leap of faith" are also available if you don't want to snorkel or finish early. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, soda, and juice are included.

Very bumby ride to and from snorkeling site. At the site there is limited snorkeling. There is a containment center and when everyone snorkels at the same time it is crowded. To see anything you need to dive to the floor, which isnt possible for most beginners. In short, if you want to see coral upclose near the surface of the water, just snorkel for free at a beach. When we went on the tour, they only showed us one site instead of two, and made up the time with more whale site seeing.

Good opportunity to see migrating whales. Crew was helpful & knowledgeable about the area and provided good support for the passengers.

Amazing! Mahalo for recommending the Molokini snorkel tour aboard Calypso

Snorkeling at Molokini was supposed to be the highlight of our trip. Unfortunately, unfavorable weather conditions did not allow it, and the Captain opted for a different location as the second snorkeling site. A great disappointment, but obviously not the crew's fault. The first stop was "turtle town." Not much of a "town" that day -- I spotted one turtle, my friend saw two of them. One can see many more (dozens!) on the beach at Ho'okipa, although it's not the same as observing them under water. The Calypso experience was just as described on this site. Be mindful that it's an early morning departure, meaning the sun was not out yet and the water was still chilly, making it essential to bring something warm to wear afterwards and to remember towels. The crew was (mostly) very friendly, informative, and helpful, except for one very rude individual. The lunch food did not appeal to me, so I stood in line (for quite a while) just for a soft drink. When it was finally my turn, the crew member said he would not give me a drink because he was serving lunch. His very boorish and abrupt demeanor would not have rankled as much if not for the fact that he had sold alcohol to passengers (to whom he had served lunch) just moments ahead of me. This was not a cheap tour and he should have been more accommodating and respectful toward a "woman of a certain age." I have to admit that this encounter marred the trip and left a bad impression, which is why I am rating this tour with only three stars.
