Yes, taking the luxury dome car wasn't cheap, but what an experience! Unlike a previous reviewer who was disappointed and had trouble with basic English and grammar in describing the railway's food service, we found the breakfast buffet along with the afternoon cheese & cracker and veggie platter spread to be a veritable feast. Brian was the car's steward and made sure that every comfort was provided. Entertainment with acoustic guitar (in each direction, round trip) added to the spirit of enjoying the ride, not least of which was the beautifully restored 1950s-era dome car that looked brand new.
We also signed up for the 90-minute bus tour that brought us to several lookout points along the south rim. The driver/guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and, of course, the views were magnificent. Seeing the Grand Canyon was a Bucket List item, and we took care of it in style.
