Having now migrated from the Pacific Northwest to the east coast after living in the NW for so long, I am identifying and remembering the experiences which make this place so special. Whale watching with Captain Dan is right up there. We probably made the trip to sail out of Orcas Island on the Eclipse at least 10 times. Each time was special. We saw whales every time - some trips we saw more than others. We tried a couple of other whale watching companies over the years, but for us, there was no comparison. Every time we went out was special and I'm missing it already. If you are in the islands, do this. Or, take a trip especially to go out with Eclipse Charters. You'll be making memories that will stay with you for a long time.

We took off with Captain Dan at 12:30 on a Monday, after meeting his lovely wife in their office. We were on board with about 12 other people. The whales were close by according to reports, and Captain Dan set out to find them. Our teenage girls rode in the front of the boat with the Captain, they enjoyed seeing the process and hearing all the other captains on the radios reporting sightings. The scenery on the way to the whales is breath taking and worth the ride itself. We quickly were able to spot a mother and child Orca pair, what a beautiful sight! On our trip we saw at least 15 different Orcas, a teenage humpback whale, Dolphins, seals, 2 eagles on trees and one eagle in its nest, two Rams and a deer. The tour of the islands and beautiful homes, and light house, was also beautiful. I highly recommend this company, and if we didn't live 3,000 miles away, we would do it again and again!

We went on a whale-watching cruise (about 3 1/2 hours) with about 20 other people. We got to see humpback whales, seals, sea lions, porpoises and bald eagles. In addition to the captain we had two other staff on board who helped with whale spotting, bird identification and general comfort. The captain warned us when we were going to hit rougher water so there were no unexpected lurches. The whole crew had 15+ years of experience each, and it showed. I would definitely sail with them again.
