I am generally not the "tour activity" type, but my wife and I decided to finally go to try to see some whales, after living in the Puget Sound area for over eighteen years. I am so glad we did! It was mind-blowing to see all of the wildlife and natural terrain in the Sound- I had never imagined the extent of the scores of islands and the desolate beauty out there. I especially liked Eclipse Tours. Unlike other tours I have been on where there is a "cheesy" factor that makes me roll my eyes, our tour with Dan and Denise was very down-to-earth and solid. His years of experience and obvious love of the Sound and the wildlife that live there really come across. We were lucky to not only have multiple Orca sightings, but, near the end of the tour, a family of Orcas approached the boat, crested mere feet in front of us, then dove under the boat on their way to an island filled with tasty harbor seals. Utterly thrilling and unforgettable!

We did 4 different Whale tours between Orcas Island and Friday Harbor. By far- hands down this one was the most disappointing. This one wins by a landslide to be the least worth our buck although it was the cheapest we paid. The fact that there was a groupon should have been our first clue. The boat had assigned seating and at several intervals I counted no fewer than 6 people asleep!! We saw orcas on two other tours to the north- this captain went south. If eagles and seals are your thing then this is your boat. The captain had a knack for pointing out eagles. To us- the view was pretty; however, we already saw it off the ferry. My suggestion is a smaller boat. You get more personalized service. Our best success was on two smaller boats where the captain worked so hard to get where the whales were. Those tours ran long as the boats had a long distance to cover to reach a pod of 7 orcas. When we arrived there were 8 other whale watch boats in the area. Seems like the captain from eclipse went places where we saw no other whale boats. Not a single one. So my question would be why did they go elsewhere? I checked the blog of the boat we were on yesterday and it's not surprising that they found the whales today. Even with a groupon I honestly would have preferred to get off the boat. 3.5 hours was too long for eclipse.

A family run business that has excellent service! The owner, Dan is the captain and he is amazing. His wife, Denise and another employee all make you feel so welcome. Their boat is wonderful as it has stabilizers and is very smooth. Throughout the whole experience I could tell that they love what they do and want to share it with others. We went out into Canadian waters. We did see Orca whales and watched them for awhile. It was very educational too and we learned so much about the different species. Just the boat ride and viewing other islands makes a very nice day. They are convenienlty located next to the ferry and it was easy to park nearby. It was such an enjoyable day. The only regret I have is that when they say goodbye they do not have a place to leave a gratuity and they well-deserved one! Hopefully this little review will make up fof it!
