Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

I spent a long time researching whale watching tours online for our group going to ISP. I wanted a small boat from a local company because I am short and wanted to be able to see well and not compete with many others. I got that with Hoonah and more. I was in a group of six so it was great having our own personal tour. Joardan was awesome and even though we had to ride out for about a half hour before seeing any whales, once they were spotted he kept moving the boat for the best views. I will highly recommend Hoonah and if I am ever in ISP again, I will take this take this trip.

If your cruise ship is stopping at Icy Straight Point consider booking this excursion. Give your business to a local from Hoonah instead of the cruise ships. We had a great experience. Saw humpbacks, sea otters, and sea lions. Great service, including pick up and delivery at Icy Straight Point. Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic time on our whale watching excursion. We saw whales bubble net feeding multiple times, sea lions and a very large brown bear! The boat while larger enough has room for only 6 so you are able to enjoy your time without competing for a good view like on some other larger boats I've gone on. Joardan was an excellent captain and guide. We also enjoyed the complementary coffee, snacks and the home made muffins his wife made. If your cruise stops in Icy Strait I highly recommend booking with Hoonah Whale Tours rather than booking one of the larger boats the cruise ship offers in their excursions
