Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

The absolute BEST tour ever on a perfect, sunny day! We watched and heard whales blow and dive and got to see a young humpback learn the tricks of maneuvering its fins, first with slaps, then to other twists and dives. It quickly moved on to making full breaches, one after the other as mom swam along side. We felt all the joy that the animal must have felt as it flew through the water then into the air. Unlike other trips, our boat was mostly alone, not having to play whale watching warfare jockeying for position on crowded waters. The captain knew exactly where to take us. Thanks for this fabulous excursion! Five stars cannot rate this trip accurately. Even ten would not do.

Excellent outfit and crew. We booked directly with them as they are not a cruise ship cattle boat outfit. Small personalized operation. We had Humpbacks next to the boat Harbor seals multiple Bald Eagle sightings and even a pair of brown bears on a beach. You will not be disappointed if you book with these folks.

This was an excellent experience. Hoonah Whale Tours is an independent tour operator working in a cruise ship dominated area. HWT is captained by Joardan and his wife Maraiya. Their personal approach, care and attention are such positive attributes, but the opportunity to see humpback whales in this area is excellent. HWT's boat is metal and when the whales passed underneath (which doesn't happen often), you could hear/feel the vibrations of their songs...something you won't ever forget.
