Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

Fantastic. We got to see 8 humpback whales doing bubble net feeding. Amazing to watch them breach over and over. Guide said that only happens every couple of weeks so don't count on it for your tour. We were blessed.

You simply can't beat a powerful 30' boat with no more than 6 people on board. We had a private charter, 4 people, and Jordan, who was first to find the whales so we had ample time to observe from a safe distance before other boats realized he had found the pod. Jordan is very knowledgeable, safe and personable....even providing homemade blueberry muffins using berries he picked ! Such a wonderful couple, who have made a home here and are working hard to excel in their chosen career. Mariyah picked us up in her SUV at the Excursion center and took us directly to the boat....literally driving us down the dock ! Talk about service. This boat has a sizable enclosed area to warm up with a hot coffee during the search for whales, and ample room to move about outside for unobstructed views. This was a wonderful 3 or 4 hour tour. Happy to support, and highly recommend this small business....you'll be happy you did as well.

We arrived at Hoonah and were looking to book something on shore instead of through the cruise line. The arrival terminal only had room on a boat for 50 people. We just completed a tour of Denali National Park with over 20 people and wanted something small. Blake remembered seeing a small local company so we search trip advisor and the name stuck out. We called and they picked us up right away. Jordan was very accommodating, staying a respectful distance from the whales but close enough to capture some great photographs and videos. After seeing other boats out there filled to capacity - and loud! - and other small boats over-extended with passengers, we appreciated this 6 passenger capacity cruise. You get to see all the whales the bigger companies have without the big company price or crowded boats.
