This is an amazing experience! Our tour guide, Bill, was knowledgeable, kind, courteous, and helpful. We were so lucky to have a private tour on a sunny day. It reminded me of spring skiing day. It was nice to have lunch with a view and yummy pie.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave your kind words! We are so happy to hear that you had an awesome day at the glacier. Nothing like a day of spring skiing... or glacier trekking!

I can’t tell you how grateful I feel for booking this tour last minute. I was incredibly fortunate to have spent a handful of days in Alaska and wanted to make the most of my trip, rain or shine by enjoying any activity that was still being offered in the month of Oct. This tour operator was beyond professional and they provided me with helpful information about what to wear, pack and most importantly what to expect throughout the tour. Our tour operator Bill was simply outstanding. He shared with us a little bit of Alaskan history and made sure that we were comfortable on the ice whether it was just by lending a hand to avoid one of us slipping, playing personal photographer, and allowing us to enjoy the glacier without feeling rushed. The highlight of our trip, needless to say was Matanuska itself, my zen, inspiration and everlasting memory. I felt like a million bucks since our group of three got to enjoy the glacier all too ourselves. Our three mile trek flew by due to the beautiful scenery. Following our trek on the ice, we went to lunch at a small and quaint lodge where a variety of burgers, sandwiches and salads were on the menu. I highly recommend the salmon patty sandwich with the side mixed green salad with apple Dijon vinaigrette. Absolutely yummy and a perfectly healthy meal. Thank you Greatlands for guaranteeing to operate a tour with bare minimum people, rain or shine! I couldn’t have experienced this without you all.

Stopped by for an impromptu walk along the Matanuska Glacier. Sunny skies. It was a guided tour, (that’s all they allow now) for a couple hours. Drive down the gravel road into the valley to reach the check-in, then another couple miles to where you start the tour. The guide was great, patient, had a lot of good info without talking continuously. Allowed time to just look around, take pictures, etc. They provided everything we needed, sticks, hard hat. Proper footwear is really important. Wandering around the glacier for a couple of hours was a blast, so much better than a just a stop and look. The guide took really good care of us, making sure we were safe, steady, etc. Everyone was really nice and helpful. Up near the top of our list of favorite excursions during our vacation. (side notes – the drive from Glennallen to the Glacier on a sunny morning was grand, the nearby restaurant recommended by our guide was a delight. )
