was picked up from my hotel (the W) by a nice gentleman named Stanley who works for Tours by Isabella and driven to the Swamp Boat Adventure. As we drove along, Stanley provided a lot of history of New Orleans and Cajun Country. Swamp Boat tour was adventurous. We saw a alligator that had just eaten a wild hog!. Had a great time at Oak Alley hearing about the history of the old plantation, visiting the slave quarters and strolling down the walkway between the 300 year old Virginia Live Oaks! Tour guides were in period costumes, which was a nice touch and the lunch that consisted of Cajun and Creole cuisine was delicious. We next visited a Creole plantation (Laura). The tour guide (Lawson) was absolutely delightful as he told the intriguing story of the history of this plantation and it's female owners. Lawson made the plantation come to life with his stories of which he spoke in both English and French. The tour takes you on a visit of the plantation, a walk through a well-maintained vegetable and fruit garden and a visit to the slave quarters where you learn the history and stories of the slaves that worked the plantation. This was a full day tour and well worth the visit to all the locations!
The tour was great. We really enjoyed it. I have a couple concerns however, if the alligators don't come out in the swamp until the warmth of the afternoon, why did we do the swamp in the morning? The van driver was great, but the van was extremely crowded. Twelve people DO NOT fit comfortably in the vans used. We found this to be true on both the tours we took with your company. I spent both tours hanging off the edge of my seat because the two already on the seat needed almost all the room. Not so much fun! Thank you.
Worth every penny! Great plantation tours and fabulous swamp ride - saw 4 alligators, even though it was a bit out of season. The experience guide new how to pick them out and bring the boat right up close. He entertained us with great stories of making a living in the bayou as well.
