Experience the Sonoma wine region in a unique way – on a San Francisco-style trolley, for an open-air ride through rustic, sun-kissed Sonoma Valley. Stop at 3 different wineries to sip and swirl fine Northern California varietals. This open-air trolley will let you experience the picturesque vineyards like no other tour. On this tour, your friendly and knowledgeable guide will take you to three wineries for tastings. You will visit Sonoma's top historic landmarks and enjoy lunch during one of the scenic stops. The tour starts at 10:00 and and ends around 4:30.

Must be 21 years or older to take this tour.

Sonoma Valley

Your day in California wine country starts as you hop aboard the Sonoma Wine Trolley, modeled after the famous historical cable cars of San Francisco. Enjoy the breeze as your knowledgeable tour guide whisks you off to four outstanding Sonoma-area wineries, known for both their wines and their hospitality. Each wine tasting takes place at the winery and a representatives at each winery will explain the different varietals you’ll sample and the background of the wineries (wine tasting fees are not included and you can expect fees of $30 to $40). There will be wonderful photo opportunities on this tour and your friendly guide will be happy to take a photo or two of your group so you can document your memorable day in wine country.

We met the trolley and our guide Leif at Sonoma Plaza the morning of our tour. We got there a bit early to walk around. It is a neat square - don't miss it. They also have a few places that serve pastries and breakfast items. We had already eaten, but could have enjoyed a pastry and coffee before the tour it we'd planned ahead. Leif was very nice and knowledgeable. We had a large group and Leif made sure to get a picture of our group right away. The first two wineries we visited were WONDERFUL and Leif had loads of information about them. He also seemed to have a great relationship with the wineries and our group was treated very well. The visit to Buena Vista was superb. Lunch was very good and we enjoyed eating in the picnic area with our last tasting. The third visit was very relaxed and much different than the first two - which was perfect because our group needed a little rest. The last winery visit was strange because we started in a weird warehouse room. I think that had more to do with the winery than the trolley tour, but the wine trolley staff may want to re-think using this winery on their tour. If we go from excellence at Ravenswood and Buena Vista and then end up in a room with a bunch of boxes and storage items - it's a major let down at the end of the day. Thankfully the winery staff moved us outside where we enjoyed our last tasting. Overall, our experience was excellent and our guide was great. We had a particularly obnoxious group of girls on our tour and I thought he handled them well. If you've never been to Sonoma and aren't sure the best way to visit the wineries, I think this is an excellent choice. We enjoyed ourselves very much!

Thank you for the feedback. Glad to hear you had a wonderful time. And yes the square has so many wonderful places to stop including that little french bakery. I will personally look into the last tour and see what was up.

My daughter and I did the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley on a Thursday in early August. Leif was our trolley driver. Our group was small, only 10 people total, which we loved (we saw the trolley the next day and it was FULL, probably 30 people). We visited 4 wineries, Imagery, Benziger, Madrone and Paradise Ridge. Imagery and Madrone were our favorites, although the tram tour at Benziger was really good and the wine/chocolate pairing at Paradise Ridge was yummy. Lunch from The Girl and the Fig was great. Leif entertained us with fun facts about wine and the area. This was the perfect way to see several wineries in one day and not have to worry about keeping track of time or driving. You will need extra money for tastings, but it's well worth the cost.

An absolutely wonderful way to get around Sonoma and visit 4 wineries all while learning about some Sonoma history! We were fortunate enough to be staying at one of the hotels the trolley picks up at, so while we were anxiously waiting outside, we suddenly heard a loud cow bell... and around the corner, right on time, comes Eric and the trolley! It is an adorable little trolley car stocked with water throughout the day and a great tour guide. There are outside seats in which you face the street, and there are inside seats that are covered... we had perfect weather, 87 no humidity, so we chose outside so we enjoyed the breeze! Eric told us about the Sonoma Square history along the way and then we arrived at our first stop, Ravenswood. While smaller facility with limited grapes on their property, it was a great first stop in which we got to taste a variety of whites and reds, two of which were straight from the barrel! We got back on the trolley and traveled to our favorite and one of the most beautiful... Buena Vista. The architecture here is so beautiful and our tour guide here was lovely. They have some of our favorite wine, one of which we actually get back in New Jersey! Really cool history, too. Picnic lunch catered from The Girl and the Fig restaurant which was incredible. Back on the trolley to Imagery Winery on the other side of the city.. not an actual vineyard, but some reallllly different wines! Our last stop was Mayo Winery which is so small and quaint and perfect and delicious. Great patio space which is where most of our tasting took place. Eric played great music on our way back to the hotel and promptly dropped us off. Overall, we had a wonderful day and I would recommend this to anyone travelling to the Sonoma Area.
