I have been to many museums in my life. Some small, some big, some in between. I found this one to be sort of meh (sorry!). NOTE: You will need to show ID if you're planning to have any drinks inside or buy any alcohol in the gift shop. My "meh" opinion of the AmProMu began with what appeared to be inflated prices for museum tickets / tours on its website, which could be bought in advance. We considered it to save time, but we knew the prices we were seeing were nearly double what we'd seen outside the museum the day before. I figured they were adding on a "drink ticket" for a "craft cocktail" in the "retro speakeasy" inside to the regular admission ticket price, but they didn't indicate anywhere that you could buy just a ticket without any extras. With little desire to have alcohol at 10 am, we went to the door hoping for the guided tour and were told we'd just missed the first guided tour....it was literally 10:02, and that was because we didn't know our IDs would be checked and we'd get a bracelet put on us before we went in. We could see the tour group hadn't even advanced past the first exhibit area yet. Okay then. So we paid about $16 apiece for a self-guided tour, and we were out of the museum in 30 minutes. There's a room that for us was basically at the end of the tour where you can watch a video about the whole idea of Prohibition. It would have helped the kids with us (11, 15 and 17) to watch this film first, not last, so they could get a better overall idea of Prohibition before seeing the artifacts. I tried to fill in the gaps as best I could, but it would have been much better for the kids especially to have a guide explaining and linking the exhibits. Maybe we saw things out of order on our "self-guided tour," because the film was at the end and the speakeasy was smack in the middle ... and we also never got our drink, which was supposed to have been included with our admission. I was left wondering at the end what the heck just happened, and there was no one around anywhere to ask, including in the bar area.
So IMO as a self-guided tour, it's a disappointing and disjointed experience. Nearly 1,000 period doodads and artifacts throughout which is cool. I personally found the gift shop here to be a huge miss. There was nothing distinctive or really even enticing about what was in it. I expected some interesting items that were related to Prohibition, but there were hardly any. Most of it was random stuff, like housewares and art and soaps and hot sauces and honey, all of which really didn't "go" with the concept of the museum at all. I thought that was a shame. Even the few t-shirts offered that had the museum name on them weren't ones anyone would want to buy. I wish they'd stuck all the unrelated stuff into the adjoining shop and restricted the museum shop to Prohibition stuff. All in all, a "meh" experience and maybe would be better for someone who literally knows nothing at all about Prohibition. For such a fascinating and unusual time in American history, this museum was a miss for me.

Hi LiteWallet. Our prices online can be overwhelming at times as there are many options whether it be museum tickets, cocktail tickets, trolley packages, or guided tour offerings. The self-guided tour option does not include a cocktail with admission, but a cocktail ticket can be added on seperatly. The guided tour is a different ticket for $35 that includes a cocktail at the end, and unfortunately our sales system does close bookings for the guided tour at the time that the guided tours are scheduled to start. If you could reach out to us at (912) 220-1249 to let us know what day you and your family came through the museum, we would like to better understand the situation and figure out how we can do better. Thank you for your feedback.
