This review brought to you by a person so terrified of heights she has never been into the loft of her own house.
It was with a significant amount of trepidation that I booked myself in for any kind of zip-lining in the first place, but when travelling with four offspring aged 14 - 24 and a husband, you don’t back down from adventure. The guys taking us round were very personable and professional and even though the platforms are narrow and largely don’t have rails round them I always knew I was very securely attached at every moment, and safe. Nervous yes, but definitely safe. Our group was 12 people so there was a little waiting on the platforms sometimes, which did get a bit nerve-wracking at times.
The first event is the Tarzan swing - fantastic! I would say that I screamed like a little kid - except that the young child who did it shortly after me didn’t scream at all (although he did get a round of applause from every on-looker) so there’s that. I thought (and was assured by husband and sons) that if I could do the Tarzan swing I could do anything that a zip-lining company was going to offer. Although that was before any of us had met The Tree of Terror hahaha. There is a brilliant combination of zip-lines, a wobbly metal bridge and rappelling. The rappelling from a (tree-top level) platform to the ground is followed by the afore-mentioned Terror Tree - a hollow ficus you climb up the inside of, then out (gulp) on to a tiny platform and a further ascent up the outside of the tree on a rope ladder. OMG. I Did.Not.Look.Down and just repeated the mantra: one more step and just one more step and just one more step, until I got to the top. All of the zips are fun but the last three in particular are simply incredible. High, fast, very long and crossing waaaay above the canopy, the views are utterly breath-taking.
Before we went I did slightly wonder if I had picked something with not-quite-enough of an adrenaline rush for my (much braver and far more zip-line experienced than me) family but they assure me their adrenaline was rushing very very well indeed throughout.
Highly recommended.
