If you want to have a one of a kind experience, then you absolutely have to check out the Mushers Camp in Skagway. We were picked up at the port by our driver, Harry, who took us on a scenic mountain drive to the camp. (NOTE: The camp in in Canada, SO REMEMBER YOUR PASSPORTS.) The scenery was amazing, and Harry was so knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna, that we totally forgave him when he told us that black bears were fairly rare in that area, and then five minutes later we saw one literally on the side of the road. :D
Once we got to the Camp we were shown to a large open yard where we played with a group of rambunctious, adorable sled dog pups, We were given an overview of the gear that the sledders use, how they take care of and train their dogs, and the structure of both the Iditarod and Yukon Quest sled races. After that we got to ride in an ATV that was pulled by a team of dogs and it was the most fun we'd had since that time I got handcuffed to that parade float during Mardi Gras. Seriously though, the dogs were amazing, and they loved getting pets after they were unharnessed. There was nothing bad about this excursion, it was fantastic from the minute Harry picked us up, to the minute he dropped us off. An absolute Must Do if you're in Skagway.
Also, a big thanks to Harry and Melissa for the awesome experience!
