What To Expect
1
The Mitten Buttes And Merrick Butte
As we set up the horses to assign based on experience, weight, and height. We'll give you and our horse buddies a proper introduction. After you two get acquainted, we'll start galloping towards the West Mitten Butte, where you get to be up close. Take pictures of the East Mitten and Merrick buttes at a distance. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two gigantic mittens with their thumbs facing inwards. If you capture the Merrick Butte at an angle you see that it's between the West & East Mitten Buttes. All three buttes are commonly seen together in many popular films and images. Its elevation is over 6,200 ft making it one of the tallest buttes in Monument Valley.
2
Sentinel Mesa
Located northwest of The Mittens is the Sentinel Mesa, a mountain with an elevation of over 6,400 ft. Most of the mesa is in the state of Utah, but a small southern section of it is in the state of Arizona. This breathtaking mesa can be seen from so many points.

Worst experience. Don’t know where to begin. When we arrived none of the horses were ready. The tour guide Darrin. Had myself and my daughter catch curry, brush and tack our own horses. He was very scattered. There 4 other riders that had zero experience with horses. We started our ride 45 minutes late as it took him forever to get the other riders horses ready. The horse I was provided to ride apparently had a habit of bucking on the trail. In the middle of the ride the horse decided to take off running and bucking. Needless to say I came off the horse. The tour guide switched his horse with mine and continued to have issues with the horse he started me out on Even after the incident he kept having the horses trot despite no one on the ride wanting to trot anymore. The tour guide tried to blame me saying that I said I was experienced so I should have been able to handle it. Instead of taking responsibility for putting someone on a problem horse I am an experienced rider. I am not a pro rodeo bronc rider. I signed up for a relaxing horseback ride. Instead I paid to tack my own horse and my daughter horse got thrown and didn’t even get the full 1 hour ride I paid for.

A great experience! Our guide, Robert, was really kind and experienced. He explained the deep history of Navajo tribe and it was intriguing. Timhorn, Mac, Bandit and Ecker were all kind horses. Really recommend it!
