We took the 2.5 hour tour which left from the View Hotel lobby (at the end farthest from the desk) at 9:45. Our guide Joe was there waiting to pick us (and the other 3 people on our tour) up in the open-sided truck and carry us into the valley. The truck has a speaker system so he could talk to us continually throughout the drive, which was great because he had so many fascinating things to tell us about the valley, the people who live there (including his family), and the culture of the Dineh (also known as Navajo). Joe was exceptionally helpful and friendly. We stopped at a number of beautiful spots to admire the view and take pictures (Joe helped with that too). Taking the tour allowed us to go to some of the most interesting parts of the valley to which visitors are not permitted to go without a guide; I particularly enjoyed seeing the ancient petroglyphs. I cannot recommend this tour too strongly; it was one of the highlights of our trip to the Southwest.

We had Steven as our guide - he drove very smoothly on the tricky roads, took us to several fantastic places, and told us a lot about Navajo (Dine) history and culture. A super guy! The scenery and specific features are quite stunning. Steven was very expert with IPhone panorama shots done vertically, as well as with normal camera photos. He met us in the lobby of the VIEW Hotel and dropped us back by our car. An excellent trip - highly recommended.

My twin sister and I had a weekend at Monument Valley and decided to go on a guided tour rather than just drive the park. Fortunately, we were the only ones on our tour so it was pretty much a private tour. Yvonne (who was a twin also) was very informative about all the rock formations and proud and knowledgeable about her Navajo heritage. We got to go into part of the park that is off limits unless you are on a tour. Yvonne even played us a beautiful song on her flute at one of the rock alcoves we stopped at. We also stopped at a Hogan and were able to visit the Navajo woman inside.
