What To Expect

Charleston City Hall

The tour will begin in front of City Hall which is one of the pillars of the "Four Corners of Law" which also includes the Courthouse, the Post Office and St Michaels Church at the intersection of Meeting Street and Broad Street. From here you will explore many notable sites in the French Quarter and the residential area "South of Broad".

Rainbow Row

Learn the history behind the famous Rainbow Row, one of the most photographed sites in Charleston. Rainbow Row is located in the "South of Broad" neighborhood which we will explore and includes many historically significant homes including the antebellum mansions located along the famous "Battery". ***Please note that stops along the tour may vary.***

Battery & White Point Gardens

Explore the residential area "South of Broad" including the Battery with views over the water to Fort Sumter.

A mild February afternoon created the perfect setting for our 2-hour overview of Historic Charleston. Local expert (and licensed tour guide) Dennis Mardis set a reasonable pace of walking and talking our way through this delightful area. We had the opportunity to view many building exteriors and several interiors that helped establish the context of Charleston's yesterdays, today, and tomorrows. Overall, this tour served as a great overview - we intend to visit again to savor the treasures that await.

Our tour guide, Dennis, led us through town and through time to learn about the roots, ramifications, and realities of this beautiful city. It was a great two hours spent getting introduced to Charleston’s history, architecture, influences, and importance in American history. Dennis was knowledgeable, engaging, fun, and in love with Charleston. Time and money well spent!
