What To Expect
1
The Mitten Buttes And Merrick Butte
First, we'll assign you a horse based on your experience, weight, and height. Then we'll start galloping towards the West Mitten Butte, followed by the East Mitten Butte. They are also known together as, The Mittens. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two gigantic mittens with their thumbs facing inwards. If you capture the Merrick Butte at an angle you see that it's between the West & East Mitten Buttes. All three buttes are commonly seen together in many popular films and images. Its elevation is over 6,200 ft making it one of the tallest buttes in Monument Valley.
2
Sentinel Mesa
Located northwest of The Mittens, it's a mountain with an elevation of over 6,400 ft. Most of the mesa is in the state of Utah, but a small southern section of it is in the state of Arizona. This breathtaking mesa can be seen from the Monument Valley Visitor Center.

The landscape is one of a kind, the horses are the cutest and really calm. Our guide explained a lot about the landscape and the Navajo. In general we had a great time BUT the tour started with one hour delay. We were told to be there 30min early to register, which we did. After 30min the guy registering us left with another tour and we waited at the stables in the glazing sun for one hour. (We left at 11am instead of 10am). Once our guide arrived we were given no explanation nor an apology for the delay. We still decided to do the tour since we were there and had the time BUT the service level and costumer focus in regards to the delay doesnā€™t even deserve one star. I would not book with this company again.

We had a great time on our two hour horseback ride. Our guide was Robert and he did a wonderful job leading our ride through stunning Monument Valley. The ride left from the stables just past the View cabins and down at the base of the the West Mitten and back close to Sentinel MesaRobert provided interesting information about the area and took some great pictures. The highlight of our trip to Monument Valley.
