3 Hour Rainforest Walk and Totem Park

Overview
Enjoy a rainforest walk and visit a Totem Park on our 3 hour excursion in scenic Ketchikan, Alaska on this small group tour with local guide.

Explore the lush green rainforest of Alaska among huge old growth trees and moss blanketing the forest floor.  The remote nature trail follows a cascading creek and we stop at a beautiful waterfall viewing area.  The trail does have several sets of stairs and uphill / downhill portions. Experience natures beauty up close and step into this treasured land on our approximately 1.5 mile hike.  Escape the crowds and take in the fresh air and peacefulness of the forest.

We also journey to the Totem Park where your local guide will share stories behind the majestic totem poles and the Alaska Native culture with you.  Our excursions are small groups of 11 guests or less and we include pick up at the cruise ship dock. Wild Wolf Tours is a local family owned business and we love to share our beautiful surroundings with you.

What is there not to love about this tour? Our guide was outstanding. She knew so much about Ketchikan and the views were breathtaking. Ketchikan was a last-minute switch for our cruise, My10-year-old was tasked to find activities in Ketchikan. She said Mommy I want to go to the Rainforest and so we did. The walk is magical we said it's like a giant fairy garden. The beauty of the trail has to be experienced. There are some big stairs but that enhances the experience. My 10-year-old loved it just as much as the adults. We saw huge slugs we almost missed the first one but saw it and so many more. The size of the skunk cabbage is well just huge. We climbed the big tree and took in the beauty. The Totem poles were also amazing. Our guide helped our two kids to catch crabs on the beach after. It was truly a great 3 hours. This tour is not to be missed.

Great tour and great communication. We weren't sure if we should do the 2 hour or the 3 hour tour, but even though there were stairs, we were able to do the 3 hour tour comfortably. We were a nice sized group, not too big or too small and our guide was very patient waiting till everyone was together as we had all ages in our tour. It was great to hear all the stories from a local and to hear about the totem poles and the history. The hike was beautiful and our guide was very informative! We lucked out with a beautiful day in Ketchikan!

Our guide Patty arrived at Ward Cove cruise ship port about 15 minutes early. Only two of us booked this excursion; we got a private tour! Be sure to dress in layers: The walk is truly in a rainforest. The walk/hike is relatively easy on a mostly gravel path with some stairs and elevation changes. Probably not suitable for anyone with mobility issues or bad knees. The weather was cool and rainy, but I got warm very quickly. Patty retired from the National Forest Service and is extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and vegetation encountered on our walk and Ketchikan in general. Patty shared fresh smoked salmon spread, crackers and cold water at the end of our walk. Yummy! The Potlatch Park totems were a real treat. We had the option to be dropped in town at Ketchikan or back at Ward Cove. We opted for Ward Cove to avoid waiting in line for the cruise ship shuttle from town. I highly recommend this excursion. It’s a shame others on our ship didn’t book it.
