3 Hour Rainforest Walk and Totem Park

Overview

Enjoy a rainforest walk and visit a Totem Park on our 3 hour excursion in scenic Ketchikan, Alaska on this small group tour with local guide.

Explore the lush green rainforest of Alaska among huge old growth trees and moss blanketing the forest floor. The remote nature trail follows a cascading creek and we stop at a beautiful waterfall viewing area. The trail does have several sets of stairs and uphill / downhill portions. Experience natures beauty up close and step into this treasured land on our approximately 1.5 mile hike. Escape the crowds and take in the fresh air and peacefulness of the forest.

We also journey to the Totem Park where your local guide will share stories behind the majestic totem poles and the Alaska Native culture with you. Our excursions are small groups of 11 guests or less and we include pick up at the cruise ship dock. Wild Wolf Tours is a local family owned business and we love to share our beautiful surroundings with you.

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
There are several sets of stairs and uphill / downhill portions of the trail. Guests must be able to walk about 1.5 miles on gravel trail.

Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately. We do have rain ponchos or umbrellas.
At time of booking, Cruise ship passengers must provide the following information at time of booking: ship name, docking time, and disembarkation time
A child cars seat and booster seat are available upon request, we must be notified ahead of time.
We reserve the right to change trails and or totem park depending on conditions.
Hand sanitiser available to travellers and staff
Transportation vehicles regularly sanitised

What To Expect

Potlatch Totem Park

Journey to Totem Park where your local guide will share stories behind the magnificently carved totem poles. Step into a Clan House as guide explains about the local native culture. This small group experience is a wonderful way to learn about the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people.

Settlers Cove State Recreational Site

Rainforest walk among old growth trees and moss blanketed forest. Walk along cascading creek and stop at a beautiful waterfall viewing area on this nature trail. Local guide will point out the flora and how these resources were vital to the Alaska Natives. There are some stairs and uphill downhill portions of the trail. We do offer a 2 hour tour without any stairs as well.

Great hike with Patty. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the different plants and trees. We also enjoyed the totem pole park. Our kids had a great time. The weather was nice and it was probably our favorite port adventure.

We had a stop in Ketchikan on an Alaska cruise. Doing some research on Trip Advisor, it appeared that Wild Wolf Tours of the rain forest and Totem Park had excellent reviews. Having a few questions, I called, leaving a message. Tracy, the owner (with her husband) called back very promptly and answered all of my questions. I booked the tour. We were met by Tracy right where we got off the cruise ship. There was a total of six of us for the tour. The drive to the location of the rain forest hike was about 45 minutes, during which time Tracy told us about the area we would be visiting as well as her personal story living in Alaska. She was very engaging. The rain forest was beautiful, with views of waterfalls, streams, and incredible foliage. We even saw a few banana slugs. The pace allowed time to take many photographs of the lush scenery. Returning to our van, after a snack provided by Tracy, our next stop was Totem Park, where we saw many totem poles and learned about their history, meaning, and how they are created. Following that we visited the small museum and gift shop at Totem Park. It was a great three hours with Tracy. I highly recommend this tour - you will not be disappointed. I am not sure if the tour is available through the cruise lines, but it is certainly available on the Trip Advisor website. It deserves five stars, and it is always nice to support a family owned business.

Loved this adventure! Our tour guide Torah grew up here and is from a long line of family from here. I can't remember which clan she was from but hearing the stories and the traditions was very interesting. We did a walk through the rainforest, there were many stairs up and down if that is an issue it would be hard to do, but we loved it. Torah is very knowledgeable about the rain forest and the many things in it so it was very interesting. Loved the sounds of all the waterfalls! Torah also had local salmon dip for snacks which was very nice as well. Would recommend this trip to get a sense of the culture of Ketchikan and to really see and feel a rain forest.
