My family of 4 did this tour last week and were beyond impressed. We opted for Maverick because of their fleet of newer helicopters with ample windows spanning down to the floor in the front. Navigation to the airport and check in was so easy, with a relaxing space and gift shop to wait prior to the flight. We chose the 45 minute flight because I don't know when my next opportunity will arise to take a helicopter tour, and I didn't regret this small upgrade in price. We saw so much yet 45 minutes passed by quite quickly. We travelled with our 7 and 10 year old children and were placed in a private tour with no others, which was wonderful and we all had a fantastic view, I was in front with the two kids and my husband was behind the pilot next to the window. Our pilot Mark was phenomenal; very skilled in flying, knowledgeable on the geography of the Grand Canyon, and entertaining. At no point were we nervous, even my 7 year old son, it was a very calm and amazing experience. I was actually more nervous just walking on the trails into the canyon later that day rather than flying high over the canyon itself. We never would have seen the Colorado River and some of the formations without taking this tour. The only thing I would have prepped my kids with prior is that we were assigned seats once we got outside to the helicopter (they were happy and luckily we had no issues) and that once we're flying, we had to talk via the headsets. I could tell my son started getting a little frustrated because he couldn't follow all of the pilot's information pointed out, but I was able to tell him to just relax and enjoy, there is no quiz afterwards, and he was much better after that just soaking in the sights. You can't see the Grand Canyon like this any other way, it's such a unique experience and was well worth it. It is an experience my family will remember forever.
