What To Expect

Catalina Adventure Tours

Explore the Catalina Island's amazing undersea gardens by venturing on an exploratory mission aboard the semi-submersible SS Nautilus. Designed after the USS Nautilus, America's first nuclear powered submarine, this 45-minute 6-feet underwater journey departs from the Green Pier and will cruise to a marine preserved sanctuary known as the Lovers' Cove. Equipped with torpedo buttons, adventurers can create a feeding frenzy right from their viewing porthole for an additional charge. On the way back to the marina, enjoy breathtaking harbor views on the top deck of the submarine. Weather permitting, undersea garden tours depart hourly year round from mid-morning until an hour before sunset.

I'm a diver but my husband doesn't dive/snorkel much, so this was a great opportunity for him to see some of the fish around Catalina. We saw sardines, halfmoons, kelp bass, opaleyes, and of course Garibaldi. You can purchase food that gets shot out of the boat like a canon, which attracts the fish. They're clearly conditioned to it and it is very entertaining. Vis wasn't great that day but the fish do cloud the windows so you're guaranteed to see something. The woman conducting the tour was a bit lackluster with not much energy, but we still had an enjoyable time.

Great fun. Especially the fish food torpedos. Clean, cool, and prompt. PS: the host was too dry for me. I like a host with some energy and humor

great to see the kids reactions to the fish... My wife loved the under sea plant life... Wish the attendant had a better attitude and was more interactive...seemed like she did not want to be there at all.....
