Overview

A local, permitted guide will show you all of the highlights of Acadia National Park plus the famous fjord Somes Sound, the Asticou Gardens and go to an authentic lobster pound (where lobstermen bring their daily catch) for lunch!

We will pick you up and we’ll drive along the stunning 27-mile long Park Loop Road up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. From Cadillac summit you can see spectacular views of Bar Harbor and the surrounding islands.

See all of the famous sites on the Park Loop Road, including summit of Cadillac Mountain, Rockefeller’s stone bridges, Otter Cliffs, Thunder Hole, and Sieur du Monts Gardens and Nature Center.

We will continue on to see the summer colonies of the rich and famous. Drive along the fjord, Somes Sound. Finish in Southwest Harbor to have lunch at an authentic lobster pound while looking over Great Harbor Marina.

We can stop and stay as long as you would like at each location. We will point out trailheads and carriage roads to explore on your own.

Somes Sound

Somes Sound is a fjard, a body of water running deep into Mount Desert Island, the main site of Acadia National Park in Maine, United States. Its deepest point is approximately 175 feet, and it is over 100 feet deep in several places. The sound almost splits the island in two.

Southwest Harbor

See the fishing community of Southwest Harbor on the panoramic Great Harbor. Stop at an authentic lobster pound and see the working lobster business. **Lunch is on your own. A full menu is available.

Seawall Pond

Many of Maine's beaches are covered with cobblestones, but this coastline is unique. Powerful ocean storms created a massive seawall. As waves break, they carry rocks from the base of the beach and carry them up to shore. As the tides come in and out, heavier stones get piled at the top and smaller, lighter stones remain down the slope.

Bar Harbor

All of our tours start and end by going through the historic corridors of Bar Harbor.

This was a great private tour of Acadia National Park! Pete is knowledgeable and truly knows the area and history. He will take you to all the popular spots and a few local insider locations also. Katherine was an amazing tour guide. We spent the prior days looking around the park on our own. Capping off the vacation with a guided tour was great to learn more about the park and learn from a long standing local. She was super accommodating for our daughters multiple bathroom breaks. She showed us lots of hidden gems we would have otherwise missed.

We had such a wonderful tour with Caleb. He picked us up from our hotel and went to the park - unfortunately it was almost completely socked in with fog. We saw all the items on the 6 hour tour but couldn’t see much on Cadillac mountain. We did get to see the Thunder hole crash with water, the tinkling rocks, porpoises playing in the water just off the lighthouse. Great lunch at the Lobster pound and watched a lobster fisherwoman drop off her catch. Had some great recommendations for Bar Harbor evening which helped when we went into town later in the day. Caleb had cold water and snacks and made as many stops as we wanted. A bit pricey but so worth it for a private tour. I’d do it again and highly recommend. Ask for Caleb!
