This was top of our list of things to do on our visit and something we will never forget. As a couple we both remember the events of that day as if it was yesterday and found this to be an incredibly moving and sometimes overwhelming experience. An experience not to be rushed, allow plenty of time to take it all in. We spent time just sat in the March sunshine reflecting on the lives lost and the impact this had on this city and the world. Very fitting tribute to those who lost their lives and their families that remain.

We had previously visited the memorial in NYC but it was when the museum was still being built so we were very happy to finally make it to the museum. We bought our tickets online and were glad to have done this on the day of the visit as the lines were long. When you enter the building you have to go through detectors and I definitely recommend not taking overly large bags etc. The museum is excellent and we were amazed at the many, many items on display. We had thought it might take 1 hour to look around the museum (can't believe we thought that now) but we ended up being there for 3 hours. We could have easily stayed longer but given what we were seeing and the "heaviness" and sadness of the material, 3 hours was long enough for us (the day of 9/11 still weighs so heavily on us, but I realize not everyone is like that). But honestly you could easily spend 5 hours looking around at everything and reading everything. This is a first class museum and totally worth the visit. Personally I would say taking kids under the age of 14 it's simply too much. We particularly loved the memorial room for the lives that were lost; it was a very touching display to remember those people in a very thoughtful way. This museum is well worth the money and your time while in NYC. Excellent!!
